A perfectly aligned guest cabin reaching to the mountain views and beyond, meticulously shaped for seamless intersections, bunkered in and insulated for ultimate comfort
This guest cabin is the second structure on a secluded lot high above the Roaring Fork Valley. The cabin was strategically placed to bring in the abundant views of the surrounding valleys and mountains to the South and West. The Rocky Mountain version of a sleek simple Scandinavian villa, the cabin was designed so that each and every intersection align with one another. An 8” grid was set and followed to a tee as a guide to drive each design decision. The result is a clean, un-interrupted interior with expansive glass openings to flood the simple rectangular volume with natural daylight and seamlessly frame nature’s beauty. Rustic concrete counters, a large blackened steel fireplace and touches of light wood elements offer an understated simplicity for cozy weekend retreats. Extreme insulation is found in the layers that surround this space and are enclosed with reclaimed barnwood siding and rusted corten paneling to complete the rustic yet modern exterior shell and stand up to the extreme high alpine environment. A rooftop deck complete with the warmth of a firepit offers a year-round invitation for stargazing or cocktail hour serving as an outdoor extension for this efficient cabin retreat.
